7 Seas is a family owned business that is always looking for sustainable, high quality and environmentally friendly seafood. Since 1967, when they opened their flagship retail space on West 4th Ave, they have built a reputation for being leaders in sourcing and promoting the best choices of seafood. They provide Nuba with our albacore tune, which they fish for off the B.C. and North Washington coast as well as our Steelhead Trout, which comes from Louis Lake, B.C.
Their white, portobello, and oyster mushrooms all come from Champ’s in Delta. From growing conditions to production, distribution and customer service, Champ’s have built their entire operation on three founding principles: quality, innovation and reliability. They’re the largest, most technologically advanced mushroom producer in Western Canada and the only with Phase 1, 2 and 3 indoor composting, which means you can always count on the best mushrooms.
Earnest Ice Cream was born from a simple love of ice cream in 2012. They create ice cream that expresses their passion for flavour while embodying local and sustainable food values that highlight the best from BC farms. They are the first ice cream shop to pack pints in returnable and reusable glass jars, part of their overall goal of being a zero waste company.
Our delicious hummus is forever indebted to the good people at Left Coast Naturals. They believe that food made right can make the world a better place and we couldn’t agree more. What started as two friends selling nut butters at a local market has grown to distribute 27 brands, over 200 organic and natural bulk foods, and manufacture three of our own brands: Skeet & Ike’s, Hippie Foods, and Left Coast Bulk Foods. Along the way, they’ve never forgotten that their commitment is not just to making great food and serving their customers, but also to doing it in an ethical and environmentally responsible way.
Nuba is concerned about the growing global interest in Peruvian and Bolivian quinoa, which has subsequently driven up prices to the point where the people farming it can no longer afford their basic food staple. We know none of us want to be an unintentional part of this poverty and hunger cycle, so Nuba supports Canadian Farmers and is exclusively using homegrown quinoa from NorQuin. Norquin quinoa is GMO free and grown in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. And, in added case of serendipity, you can feel especially guilt free while enjoying our decadent, gluten-free chocolate quinoa cake!
Taves Family Farm in Abbotsford grow amazing eggplant for Nuba and deliver straight from the farm in reusable containers. Their philosophy is "The land we own is a gift that must be nurtured, respected, and preserved. As trusted by the generations before us, we aspire to be a leading model in sustainable agriculture."
Two Rivers supplies a lot of our meats from a variety of nearby farms like chicken and turkey from Rossdown Farms, and beef from Pemberton Meadows. The goal at Two Rivers Specialty Meats is to strengthen the relationship between producers and consumers and provide a product that is locally produced, hormone and antibiotic free, ethically and sustainably raised, and of course, absolutely delicious.
Vancouver Food Pedalers Cooperative is an urban farm based in Strathcona, and they grow Vancouver’s highest quality microgreens and delivers them to restaurants, grocers, and farmers markets by bicycle. The Food Pedalers exist in an effort to find an economically and socially sustainable model of urban farming that can easily be replicated. While many urban farming operations require multiple sites to reach a size which can be profitable, The Food Pedalers microgreens production system is an intensive operation requiring only a few thousand square feet of space. Such a system is ideal for the urban environment where space is at a premium and land tenure is difficult to secure.
Vancouver Island Salt Co. is Canada’s first artisan sea salt harvestry. Natural sea salt not only tastes better, but it also retains several valuable natural trace minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium, that are removed during the processing of table salts. Vancouver Island Salt Co.’s hand-harvested salt start their life from the cold, clear waters around Vancouver Island. With the moon and the tides dictating when their hardworking saunier pull in the water, they spend many long hours tending to their salt, preparing the right ingredients for delicious infusions.
Faculty Brewing Co. is open-source craft brewery focused on education, collaboration, and making quality beer. The brainchild of husband-and-wife team—Mauricio, the head brewer, and Alicia, the architect behind the brewery's design. Seeing a need to make craft beer more accessible to the masses, they found their perfect location in the former space of bicycle shop Pedal Bike Depot and began to make their idea a reality.
